Metallica’s Next Album Likely To Be Collaborative

Metallica is working on a new album, and this time they’re working together as a band more than ever before. In a new interview, bassist Robert Trujillo says the new record will most likely be more “collaborative” than 2016’s “Hardwired… To Self-Destruct.”

Trujillo says the whole band is making contributions to the new album… while the last one was mostly put together by frontman James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. He says that guitarist Kirk Hammett in particular has “so many ideas” – he’ll even play riffs for his bandmates while they’re “sitting on the toilet.”

“I’m not gonna speak on behalf of the other guys, but to me, it feels like this could be a very collaborative [writing process],” he says. “And for me personally, I love that. I love that we are in that head space to be more collaborative, and I think that’s very exciting for where we’re at now, the journey we’re about to take, the fact that those doors are opening like that.”
