Physicist: Alien Life WILL Be Found Soon, But Contact? A "Terrible Idea"

Ready or not, we may be getting close to discovering life on another planet, and according to string theory expert and futurist Michio Kaku, the idea of contacting an alien civilization we find should be a definite “no.” Kaku believes the planned October launch of the James Webb Space Telescope raises the odds of finding alien life to nearly certain before the year 2100.

“We’ll have thousands of planets to look at,” Kaku said in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” thread. “I think the chances are quite high that we may make contact with an alien civilization.” Don’t get too excited, though, because if (or when) when we find other life, he thinks trying to contact them is “a terrible idea.” After all, they could be aggressive, and we’ve all seen movies that show how that could play out.

The solution to talking with E.T. that Hollywood would expect could still happen peacefully, of course. He went on to say that another possibility is that “they land on the White House lawn and announce their existence,” but he doesn’t expect that to happen.
