A Russian woman is suing McDonald's claiming that the fast food chain forced her to break her fast for Lent because it is so delicious.

The Orthodox Christian woman argues that she had given up eating meat for Lent two years ago, but McDonald's aggressive advertising campaigns showing its menu items on billboards and other ads caused her to break her fast. She cites one particular moment in 2019 when she was out for a walk and saw a McDonald's ad showing a cheeseburger and chicken McNuggets. She said it looked so good that she couldn't resist her cravings.

In her lawsuit she argues, "In the actions of McDonald’s, I see a violation of the consumer protection law. I ask the court to investigate and, if a violation has taken place, to oblige McDonald’s LLC to compensate me for moral damage in the amount of one thousand rubles.” 1000 rubles is the equivalent of about $14.
