ABQ City Council Repeals Plastic Bag Ban

Albuquerque City Council voted 6 to 3 in favor of getting rid of the ban on plastic bags.

Mayor Tim Keller said in a statement,  “With spring winds kicking up, no one wants to see plastic bags hanging from trees and blowing down our streets again. The plastic bag ban is one important step to reducing litter, and Council should have waited for the results of the impact study they commissioned instead of taking this premature vote tonight.”

The bill to repeal the ordinance will now head to the mayor's desk for approval or veto.
