While speaking during a Royal Society webinar, Beth Shapiro, a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at UC Santa Cruz, told the viewers her group would be publishing the full genetic sequence of the extinct dodo at the Natural History Museum of Denmark.

When pushed by the audience members to clarify the claim, Shapiro said “Yes, the dodo genome is entirely sequenced because we sequenced it.” She says there are challenges, but it should be possible to bring the dodo back through cloning.
