Actor R. Lee Ermey, best known for playing the psychotic drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket, died Sunday from complications of pneumonia. He was 74.
Ermey, who served as a U.S. Marine for 11 years, often played military men in the movies and on TV -- including Apocalypse Now, The Boys in Company C and Toy Story. His other films credits include Mississippi Burning, the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Se7en. He earned a Golden Globe nomination for Full Metal Jacket.
The verteran said he had been blacklisted from Hollywood in his later years for being a conservative. (Hollywood Reporter)
