The football team formerly known as the Washington Redskins will officially have a new nickname, uniform, and logo as of February 2nd. We know that because they made the official announcement about the “official announcement” on Twitter. That’s led conspiracy theorists and amateur online sleuths to do their digging to try to get ahead of the big reveal.
Looking through websites, redirections, and pending trademarks, the though is that the final Washington nickname will be one of the following options: Armada, Brigade, Commanders, Defenders, Presidents, Redhogs, or Redwolves.
- Given that there was a previous announcement that “Redwolves” wouldn’t be the one, we’re thinking that can confidently be ruled that one out. Leaving six options that online detectives seem to be circling around.
- But wait, there’s one more to ponder. For a bit, com was being directed to the Washington Football Team’s website. Now, however, that site links to a group dedicated to helping food service workers. So, either the “Admirals” is the name, it was a clever way to get publicity for their cause…or the team is trying to throw us off. Plus, the “Admirals” are already a DC-area Quidditch team, so there may be a conflict…even though only Harry Potter fans would argue that Quidditch is a real sport.
A final clue might lie in the military-style designs in recent uniform teases. The embroidered stars lead most to think that the final name will end up being either the Admirals, Brigade, Commanders, Armada, or maybe the Defenders. We’ll all find out together on February 2nd.
