Bathroom anxiety is pretty common, as new research reveals half of all Americans have it. It turns out, a huge portion of them - 92% - hold off on going to the bathroom as a result, because they don’t want to miss anything exciting or important.
According to a new survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults, 51% have “pee-xiety,” or anxiety that strikes when they feel stuck in a situation that keeps them from using the bathroom for a long time.
- A third of respondents have missed major sports moments because they were in the bathroom, including World Series grand slams and their own kid’s pee-wee game wins.
- Another 35% say they’ve missed important life moments because of being in the bathroom, including their child’s first steps, an epic concert finale and once-in-a-lifetime photo ops.
- The survey finds the worst times to need a bathroom break are when stuck in traffic (40%), during a long car ride (34%), in an intimate moment (28%) or the middle of a movie (24%).
- Nearly two-thirds (64%) try to strategize the best time to go to the bathroom before a big event.
- The Super Bowl is something people don’t like to miss a minute of, even for a quick bathroom break.
- With 76% of those polled potentially tuning in to the game on February 9th, the survey looks at the best and worst times to hit the bathroom while it’s on.
- The best times include right before or during the halftime show (27%), during kickoff (19%), during the first quarter ad breaks (19%) or second quarter ad breaks (15%).
- While the worst times to go are during the final two minutes of the game (33%), during kickoff (25%), during the halftime show (25%) during any overtime (23%) or during the fourth quarter (14%).
- But if they have to rush to the bathroom, 54% would force someone else to catch them up on what they missed and 48% don’t want to take any chances and will watch the game on their phone while using the bathroom.
