Not having luck in your love life? You may want to clean up around the house. A new survey looks at the link between romance and home cleanliness and finds a messy house could be a dealbreaker for a lot of folks.
According to the poll of 1,000 U.S. adults, 52% say seeing their partner do chores around the house is a major turn-on. But some tasks are more appealing than others.
- The biggest chore turn-on is doing the dishes (54.9%), followed by vacuuming (50.7%), making the bed (48%), doing the laundry (45.1%) and tidying the bedrooms (42.2%).
- But before people are even dating, they’re checking out how clean potential partners' homes are. Nearly a third (29%) admit they judge the cleanliness of people’s rooms when they see them on dating apps and 72% of them have skipped a profile because of their messy room.
- Once they are dating, 80% say they judge a partner on the cleanliness of their home.
- Smells are the biggest concern, with 85% confessing this is what they judge a love interest’s home on most.
- Dirty bathrooms are also a turn-off for 83.5%, and 73% feel the same about unclean kitchens.
- Cleanliness can even affect the future of a relationship, as more than three-quarters (77%) admit they wouldn’t move in with someone if their house wasn’t spotless.
- Chores are a hot topic for couples, as more than half (55%) say they’ve argued with their partner about cleaning.
- More than half (56%) confess that their partner’s poor cleaning skills have led them to consider ending the relationship.
- And one in 20 (4.9%) of those polled have actually broken up with someone because of their cleaning habits, or lack of them.
