⚠️ Boating Conditions Alert:
Be prepared and exercise caution at Elephant Butte Lake State Park.
Due to dropping water levels, boating conditions at Elephant Butte Lake State Park are unpredictable. Visitors may encounter emerging and submerged hazards such as rocks, stumps, sandbars, and debris. Impacts with these hazards can lead to personal injury and property damage to your boat or personal watercraft.
For your safety and to prevent injury or property damage, we urge all visitors to be prepared and exercise caution when using the boat ramp and navigating the lake.
Important Safety Reminders:
- Be Patient: The boat ramp is currently down to (2) two usable lanes, which restricts the number of vessels that can launch or be retrieved.
- Ramp Conditions: Four or all-wheel drive vehicles are recommended for use on the boat ramp to ensure adequate traction.
- Be Prepared: Plan accordingly for changing conditions and prioritize safety and courtesy during your visit.
- Wear Your Life Jacket: Always wear your life jacket while on or in the water. In most circumstances, a life jacket can be lifesaving by enabling self-rescue or assisted rescue.
State Park staff are monitoring conditions daily and are committed to mitigating these hazards to the extent possible.
