Texas School Board Apologizes To Ref Railed By HS Football Player
Over the weekend, one of the biggest viral stories became that of Fred Garcia– the high school football ref that was leveled by a player who’d been ejected. Garcia has received an official apology from Edinburg School District for the actions of 18-year-old Emmanuel Duron. During the game, Duron was flagged for roughing the passer and tossed after “exchanging words” with the ref. Not taking kindly to being booted, then Duron ran onto the field and bulldozed Garcia, who thankfully, was ultimately able to walk off the field under his own power. Later, police escorted Duron away and hit him with Class A Assault charge. In addition, even though Edinburg High School won the game, the school district has pulled the team from any further postseason play. Meanwhile, Garcia’s daughter, Iris, says her dad is “doing alright” and telling the world how “tough” he is.
