Wolfgang Van Halen isn’t too happy about how his late dad Eddie Van Halen was honored at the GRAMMYs on Sunday. The rock legend was briefly honored during the In Memoriam segment of the ceremony, with a Frankenstrat guitar spotlighted on stage along with a video of Eddie shredding his epic “Eruption” guitar solo.
But Wolfie thinks the GRAMMYs could have done more to honor the late rock legend. He’s revealed on Instagram that he was actually asked to perform “Eruption” for the segment, but he “declined” because he doesn’t think “anyone could have lived up to” what his late father “did for music.” And he was disappointed to see that the tribute to Eddie was only “15 seconds” compared to “four full performances [honoring] others we had lost.”
"What hurt the most was that he wasn't even mentioned when they talked about artists we lost in the beginning of the show,” Wolfgang writes. "I'd love to get the opportunity to speak with The Recording Academy not only about the legacy of my father, but the legacy of the Rock genre moving forward.” Check out the post below.
