Tragedy on the film set starring Alec Baldwin. He pulled the trigger of a “prop gun with blanks.” The gun misfired, injuring the director and killing the cinematographer.
The Sheriff in Santa Fe, New Mexico launched an investigation. No arrests have been made. No charges have been filed, yet.
The Sheriff’s Department released a statement, (quote) “Two individuals were shot during filming of the western, Rust. Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin.”
Halyna Hutchins was airlifted by helicopter and pronounced dead at the hospital. An ambulance rushed the director the emergency room. Souza is being treated for his injuries. (E! News)
Five years ago, the Associated Press reported that at least 43 people died on sets and more than 150 were left with life-altering injuries. This over a 25-year span starting in 1990. (Los Angeles Daily News)
