It's no secret that Ann Wilson loves Led Zeppelin, but what has been a secret is that she reached out to Jimmy Page in 2008 when he was looking for a singer to replace Robert Plant following the band's 2007 reunion at a London benefit.
She tells the U.K.'s Planet Rock, "Zeppelin always was a boy's club. I know that because there was a minute when the rumor was that they were auditioning singers and I just threw my hat in the ring. I went, 'I'm here!’ and it was crickets... Who knows what went on there? But anyway, who would want to hire somebody that could sing just like Plant? I don't think that's what they were into, you know? I don't think they want it to be a caricature of Led Zeppelin."
Among the singers who were invited to audition were Steven Tyler and Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. The project went nowhere.
Ann had her Led Zeppelin moment in 2012 when she and her sister Nancy performed "Stairway to Heaven" when Zeppelin was recognized with a Kennedy Center Honor.
