Tonight starting at 8 p.m. ET, Netflix live-streams the boxing match between 27-year-old Jake Paul and 58-year-old Mike Tyson. The former heavyweight champ said, “I think I’m going to hurt Jake.”
At last night’s weigh-in, Tyson took the stage in a Speedo, grabbed his junk and slapped Jake Paul, who joked at Instagram that it was his “Chris Rock moment”.
Netflix is becoming like a cable network. They’re mixing live events with a catalog of movies, new shows and series reruns. Paul versus Tyson follows Chris Rock’s live standup to address Will Smith’s slap at the Oscars. Then on Christmas Day, Netflix will live-stream a doubleheader of NFL games sponsored by Verizon and FanDuel. After the New Year, Netflix will debut WWE’s Monday Night Raw. (Deadline)
An insider said about Netflix's $7 monthly subscription with commercials, “Once you start having advertisements, it quickly becomes the dominant way of doing things.”
