Animal Welfare Dog of the Week 7/3 - Bruce

ALBUQUERQUE – The City’s Animal Welfare Department (AWD) encourages pet owners to protect their pets this July 4. While a wonderful day to celebrate with family and friends, for animals it is a fearful, stressful and dangerous time. Fireworks often drive pets to act out of character, especially if left outside and unattended.

ID# A1913519 – Bruce is a 3 year old, Brindle, German Shepherd mix. Bruce is a happy guy with a heart full of love and a belly always ready for rubs! While he can be a little shy when meeting new people, he warms up quickly and is a total sweetheart once he feels comfortable. A proud graduate of our Shy Dog Program, Bruce has blossomed into a confident, playful pup who gets along well with other dogs and enjoys being a part of the action. To meet Bruce and decide if he is the dog for you, visit him at the Westside shelter.

OTHER AWD NEWS:

The City’s Animal Welfare Department (AWD) encourages pet owners to protect their pets this July 4th. While a wonderful day to celebrate with family and friends, for animals in is a fearful, stressful and dangerous time. Fireworks often drive pets to act out of character, especially if left outside and unattended. Leave your pets at home and indoors. The noise of the fireworks for most pets could cause anxiety, fear and a desire to flee. Keep pets in a lit, cool, calm closed room with familiar sounds and chew toys that will help to distract and make the animal feel safe. Identification tags and microchips are a must in case the pet escapes. This will help reunite pets and owners quickly and effectively. Please make sure information on tags and microchips is updated. FREE microchipping and custom pet tags are available until Thursday, July 3rd at the Eastside and Westside shelters. No appointments needed. If a pet gets especially stressed, ask your vet for help to soothe them. Happy 4th of July from Animal Welfare.

To view and/or adopt pets, simply arrive at either of the open location. We are not able to move a pet from one location to another for your viewing. Anyone wanting to adopt a pet visit our website at www.cabq.gov/pets to see available pets.
