Add Sammy Hagar's name to the list of artists who had an impersonator.
His was 58-year old Ronnie Putnam, an overweight Illinois man who was arrested after claiming to be Hagar at several Mount Vernon, Illinois-area businesses, including two banks and a vape shop where he attempted to open accounts under the name Sammy Hagar Enterprises, LLC.
A bank teller told police, “He said he was on tour but needed to cash a royalty check. He was wearing red sunglasses and smelled faintly of margarita mix, so I thought it was actually him.”
And, to try and further his claim, he did a brief a cappella version of "I Can’t Drive 55.”
He was arrested on Saturday after presenting a homemade ID card that read “Sammy Hagar, Rock God.”
He faces charges of fraud and disorderly conduct.
We reached out to Hagar for a comment but have yet to hear back.
Other musicians who've had people pretending to be them include David Lee Roth, Steve Perry, Peter Criss, Eric Clapton, Bryan Adams, Bret Michaels and Nikki Sixx.
